Bach's monumental composition stands as one of the great achievements of Western music. One of his two complete surviving passions, the St. John is a vivid musical drama with incredible emotional depth. Its brilliant narrative and excited choruses propel the story forward with great urgency, while its beautiful chorales provide personal and introspective commentary on the unfolding events. We are thrilled to explore this wonderful masterpiece again and present it in its original 1724 version.
