Ceremonies and Celebrations!

A Cathedral Concert of the Colossal Baroque

Schütz, Prætorius, Buxtehude, Hassler, Ockeghem and others

Sun May 5, 2002, 7 PM
Grace Cathedral, SF
Pre-Concert Lecture at 6 PM

To celebrate David Babbitt’s twentieth year as artistic director of the Bach Choir, we invite you to a time when spectacle, majestic music and brilliant brass fanfares marked the most important ceremonies of life. This musical pageant features works by masters of polyphony from the Renaissance through the middle Baroque, including Heinrich Schütz, Michael Prætorius, Dietrich Buxtehude, Hans Leo Hassler, Johannes Ockeghem and others, presented in San Francisco’s grandest space for ceremony and celebration: Grace Cathedral! With our multiple choirs and the world-class SFBC Baroque Orchestra augmented with brass, bells and percussion, we bring this lavish musical spectacle to full expression in the magnificent cathedral acoustic for which it was originally conceived. Joining us will be soloists Jennifer Ellis, Ruth Rainero, Thomas Hart, and Daniel Hutchings.
