Virtuoso Organ works of Bach and OthersDavid P. Babbitt, Organist
The organ, king of instruments, has inspired composers throughout history to produce some of their finest music. David P. Babbitt steps out of his role as Musical Director of the San Francisco Bach Choir to perform as a soloist in a program of organ masterworks spanning music history. His recital to benefit the choir will be Sunday, April 19, at 4 PM at Calvary Presbyterian Church, San Francisco. The majestic four-manual, 108-rank organ in this beautifully renovated sanctuary provides the full dramatic range of instrumental affects necessary for these dramatic works. The concert will feature two major works by J.S. Bach: Prelude and Fugue in Eb major ("St. Anne"), and the Fugue in E minor ("The Wedge"). Also on the program are some contemplative Choral Preludes by Bach, Dietrich Buxtehude’s Prelude and Fugue in G minor, Maurice Duruflé’s Variations on Veni, Creator Spiritus, and Charles Ives’ lively and humorous Variations on America. All proceeds from the concert go to the San Francisco Bach Choir’s concert fund. |
