It has been six years since we last performed Bach’s "other" great Passion. Less well known than the St. Matthew, Bach’s Passion According to St. John is a highly personal synthesis—at once more spiritual and mythic in overall concept and more intimate and compact in realization than its more familiar counterpart—and it contains some of Bach’s most beautiful and moving arias and choruses. This year’s all-star performance featured soloists Tamara Matthews, Jennifer Lane, Jeffrey Thomas, James Weaver, and Boyd Jarrell, with the period instruments of Magnificat Baroque Orchestra.
